NEST Program

The NEST Program is for students grades 6th-12th and uses different curriculum than our uTeach and HLAssist programs. NEST offers Credit Recovery, Initial Credit, and Honors Courses with increased accountability and oversight of student progress, course pacing, grades and communication with parents.  Archway counselors will enter your students grade upon completion of each course. Students have a Teacher’s Assistant (TA) to do the grading, unlock quizzes and tests and answer any questions that your student may have.  These could be technical questions or basic lesson questions to clarify an assignment or to better explain a concept.  However, the TA is not a tutor.  If questions cannot be answered briefly and with understanding via messaging, you may need to assist your student additionally or you may consider adding the +Tutor Package.

Offers weekly 50-minute tutoring sessions. Online Tutoring is available for Math, Science, English, and Spanish. For students who do not need weekly tutoring, individual sessions are available for purchase as needed. Tutoring prices are listed below under Additional Fees. Contact an Archway Counselor for additional information.

IMPORTANT: All HLA NEST families and students must adhere to the HLA Code of Ethics that is agreed to in the application process.

Courses are offered for grades 6th-12th in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies as well as Career Electives and General Electives. Initial Credit Course, Honors Courses, and Credit Recovery Courses are available. These are rigorous courses with on-screen teachers and multimedia tools and resources. Lab Science courses contain virtual labs.

Credit Recovery Courses – Before each lesson students are quizzed to assess mastery of the content. This allows students to place out of any content that has already been mastered. All content will be revisited on cumulative exams, providing additional checks for mastery. This approach allows students to focus on the content that is needed and less time on content that has already been mastered. Credit Recovery courses can only be taken if the original course was completed and failed. They are not eligible for original credit.

For struggling learners in grades 6-12, our Bridge Program can help to determine and close gaps in Math and Language Arts. Contact an Archway counselor for more information and to determine if this might be a good fit for your student’s needs.

Students can take 1, 2 or 3 courses at a time on a short course schedule. Completed courses can then be replaced with new courses throughout the school year for the same monthly fee.

Year-long courses will be divided into Parts A and B (0.5 credit each).  In most cases, each course will be scheduled for approximately 9-12 weeks per 0.5 credit course depending on the number of courses taken at one time (see chart below). The Archway counselor can assist with determining the best scheduling options depending on your student’s specific need. A student can work as quickly as they would like but may not complete in less than 30 days from the date the first assignment is received.

In the case of expired courses, a student may request an extension. Extensions are $100.00 per 30-day extension. All extensions beyond the first will require the approval of HLA administration. Courses that have reached the end date will receive a grade based on the Actual Grade. Please notify an Archway counselor as soon as possible if your student wants to drop a course. If your student drops a course during the first 20 days of a courses start date, the course will not appear on the student’s record. Students who do not drop the course and do not complete the course will receive a grade based on the student’s Relative Grade. Courses that have expired and were not completed will not be eligible for an extension after 90 days of the course expiration date.
