Courses are offered for grades 3rd-12th in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies as well as Career Electives and General Electives. Initial Credit, Honors, Credit Recovery, and Bible Courses are available. Courses can be either text-based or video-based depending on your student’s strengths. These are rigorous courses multimedia tools and resources. Lab Science courses contain virtual labs, as well as optional supply lists for completing labs at home for students with a passion for sciences.
Credit Recovery Courses – Before each lesson students are quizzed to assess mastery of the content. This allows students to place out of any content that has already been mastered. All content will be revisited on cumulative exams, providing additional checks for mastery. This approach allows students to focus on the content that is needed and less time on content that has already been mastered. Credit Recovery courses can only be taken if the original course was completed and failed. They are not eligible for original credit.
For struggling learners in grades 6-12, our Bridge Program can help to determine and close gaps in Math and Language Arts at no additional cost for All-Access members. Contact a HomeLife Online counselor for more information and to determine if this might be a good fit for your student’s needs.
Generally, a full-time student will complete approximately 6 credits per academic year in order to meet graduation requirements. Six credits is the maximum number of credits that a student may complete through the HomeLife Online Program for the standard monthly fee. Additional credits will require an additional fee.
A HomeLife Online counselor will assist you in working out a study plan for your student for the year. The study plan will determine which courses to take, the number of courses that should be taken at once, and the start and end date for the courses. We generally recommend that a student complete at least two credits per semester, scheduling either four 0.5 credit courses or two full credit courses. However, some students may choose to take 1 or 2 courses at a time on a much shorter term. Completed courses can then be replaced with new courses throughout the school year for the same monthly fee (maximum of 6 credits per year). Some students may choose to take one or more courses outside of the home or use a different curriculum while only taking a couple of courses through HomeLife Online.
This is a “flexible – work at your own pace” program allowing students to study when and where they want; however, students should work on their assignments every week and keep up with their weekly schedule. The student should expect to spend the same hours per week on lessons as they would in a regular classroom setting. The school year is 180 days with a minimum of 20 hours per week. Students have from August through May to complete 180 days. Students can arrange their hours as needed to fit their schedule and can extend into the summer. Course due dates are set to act as guidelines so students will stay on track to finish their courses on time. Students will not be penalized for having a few assignments “overdue” during the week. However, when students’ progress is checked at the beginning of each week, parents will be notified if the student is slipping behind or failing.
Courses should be completed to 100% before the course end date. In the case of expired courses, a student may request an extension. Extensions are $100.00 per 30-day extension. All extensions beyond the first will require the approval of HomeLife Online administration. Courses that have reached the end date will receive a grade based on the Actual Grade. Please notify a HomeLife Online counselor as soon as possible if your student wants to drop a course. If your student drops a course during the first 20 days of a courses start date, the course will not appear on the student’s record. Students who do not drop the course and do not complete the course will receive a grade based on the student’s Relative Grade. Courses that have expired and were not completed will not be eligible for an extension after 90 days of the course expiration date.
