High School > College Bound Students
Although HLA may accept a credit for diploma requirements, it is up to the parent
to insure the coursework will be accepted by the college or university for admissions
purposes. Students planning to attending a 4 year university will need to make sure
they have the requirements needed for admission to the college / university of their
choice.
Many students have early aspirations to go to college and have already
determined which college they would like to attend. Other students do
not make these types of decisions until their junior or senior year of
high school. If your student is unsure concerning future goals, we
highly recommend beginning with the recommendations listed below.
College bound students should begin researching colleges/universities
admissions requirements. Once your student begins to get a clearer
picture concerning future goals and college preference, you can make
adjustments to the 4 year plan as needed. HLA believes college bound
students should put a strong focus on the areas of English, Math,
Science, and Electives. Below is a list of recommendations to get you
started. We feel these recommendations will satisfy many 4 year
universities.
IMPORTANT: Below is a list of recommendations to assist
you with planning. Parents are responsible for contacting
colleges for specific admissions requirements. Parents are also responsible
for ensuring their students meet their state requirements as well as HLA. With diligent
preparation and planning, the below recommendations (Chart B) should help you build
upon the basic diploma requirements to equip a student for college. We call this
Goal-Based Education ["Goal-Based Education" audio and

*A credit is considered the equivalent of 150 hours of education.
Traditional schooling is 180 days of 50 minute classes, which equals 150 hours per
credit.
Home education is, of course, more flexible. Scheduling ideas can be found in the
High School FAQ.
