Working as an HLA student intern is a lot of hard work . . . well, it can also be a lot of fun, but they do have to work hard sometimes. Preparing a video for the National School Choice Week (NSCW) was one of those times where they were able to mix some hard work in with a little bit lot of fun.

Today, Monday, January 22, begins HLA’s celebration of NSCW. HLA has a lot of fun planned this week with daily giveaways. There has been much preparation behind the scenes for the event, which included the HLA interns practicing and recording them doing the 2018 NSCW Dance.

Part of the global NSCW celebration includes getting students, teachers, parents (i.e. everyone) moving to the beat of the official song of the year. Although there may be a difference in how people choose to educate their children, there is a sense of community when everyone comes together “dancing to the same beat”. Each year, NSCW participants around the globe learn the dance, record themselves doing the dance and share it on YouTube using the #schoolchoice hashtag. You may see the video the 2017/2018 HLA interns (and other students) recorded last year, which was a lot of fun.

It is another celebration this year with the 2018 official NSCW song being “Better When I’m Dancin’” by Meghan Trainor. The fun continued this year as the new interns learned the steps.

After practicing a few takes, it was not long before they were ready to record.

The dance would not be perfect without the NSCW’s signature yellow fleece scarves (get yours free for NSCW 2019).

Along with the dance, the interns have worked with HLA staff and invite you to celebrate NSCW with HomeLife Academy. Check out the HLA NSCW event page and join us in the fun this week.

The HLA student interns will debut their video this week on the HLA YouTube Channel. Until then, you may see 2018 NSCW videos submitted from around the world.
