Curriculum Corner

Visual Latin

If Latin is your foreign language of choice,
consider Visual Latin from Compass Classroom.

Compass Classroom has created a Latin Curriculum geared toward students in tenth through twelfth grades. Dwayne Thomas presents Latin in an engaging and often humorous manner that appeals to teens. Mom and Dad, don’t worry, your children will have fun, but still be learning along the way. One of the nice aspects of Compass Classroom is
that it lets you try a number
of its lessons prior to purchasing. See if
Visual Latin is a foreign language program that will
work in your school.

From David…

Dear Moms and Dads,

Welcome to the 2015/2016 school year!! We at HLA are super excited to serve you this year! We know you are just as busy as we are with a big homeschool kick-off, but
I want to take just a few
seconds to encourage you.

Stop whatever you’re doing, or as soon as you can, and just look at your kids. Pause for a minute and take in this moment. Realize this: these children are God’s creations. He made them. And He loves them. God’s very own son died for them, and for you.

You love your kids too. Your life revolves around them. I know April and I sure love ours! It’s amazing how strong a love for a son and a daughter can be. So freeze everything for a second and think about that love you have for them. Now, make a commitment not to forget that homeschooling truly is driven by the love we have. No curriculum, no goals, no tests, no projects should ever make us lose sight of the most important thing: love.

What kind of kids do we want to raise? What sort of adults do we hope to introduce to the world one day? Sure there’s a lot of school work ahead. All of us wish to produce that good homeschool fruit. But let’s agree not to forget the fruit of the Spirit. And let’s not forget that the first one in the list is love. Again, welcome to the 2015-2016 school year. It’s time to show our kids how much we care.

In Christ,
~David

“But the fruit of the Spirit is this: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

Galatians 5:22-23

Are you prepared to take the PSAT?

PSAT testing will be here soon! Aside from the obvious benefit of
being a practice test for the SAT, the PSAT gives students feedback
on their strengths and weaknesses. Knowing where their strengths
and weaknesses lie help students focus on those areas when studying
for the SAT. The PSAT is the test for juniors to qualify for the National
Merit Scholarship. In addition, students can receive information from colleges if they select to do so on the form. Don’t forget to register!

We will be conducting the PSAT in Jackson and Memphis this year on Wednesday, October 14. Registration is now open for ninth through eleventh grade students. You may register for the Jackson date or the Memphis date. Click here for more information about the PSAT.

ATTENTION – PENDING WITHDRAWAL:

If you have not registered for the 2015/2016 school year by September 1, we will assume you will not be re-enrolling with us

regular registration fees. It is important you register
as soon as possible.

If you are not re-enrolling, please have your new school fax a records request to 901-384-0731 and email records@homelifeacademy.com to let us know.

Why is my Status “Pending”?

Your account may be pending approval or pending grades at this time. We are diligently working through your accounts. If you are a returning family and pending approval, you can help expedite this for us by making sure you have reported the following:
PAYMENT
GRADES 2014/2015
ATTENDANCE 2014/2015
EDUCATION PLAN 2015/2016 (Courses/Resources listed in Applecore)
UPDATED GRADE LEVELS.

Please be sure that you have these updated and then click the SUBMIT FOR REVIEW button in Applecore to let us know it is done.

Please be certain you have grades, attendance, your education plan and grade levels updated, so you do not incur additional registration fees.

If you have already reported grades, attendance, education plan and grade levels, go to Applecore in your Member Login and click
SUBMIT FOR REVIEW.

If you have not requested your diploma, your student has not officially graduated from HomeLife Academy. When you enter this request into the Request Manager, it lets us know to look at your account and make sure all required credits are fulfilled and the student is ready to graduate.

If your student is still finishing coursework, it must be completed by September 15 or you will need to re-enroll the student for the 2015/2016 school year. Diploma requests must be completed before final transcripts can be mailed. If you have not completed or started this process, we encourage you to do so right away, so transcripts can be sent out quickly as needed. Be sure to include the graduation date of your student.
