Seniors should start the FAFSA application process right after January 1 to qualify for school funding for college. Funding is based on how early students complete the FAFSA application. This applies to seniors nationwide. TN Promise students must complete the application before Monday, February 15 in order to remain eligible. You do not need to have taxes filed before completing the initial application.

HomeLife’s offices will be closed through the holidays and will open again on January 4. We look forward to continuing to serve you when we return. We hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

RUSH requests that come in after December 23 will not be processed until we return on January 4. If you have an urgent need, you may e-mail HLA.

National School Choice Week will be held January 24-30, 2016. Celebrate your privilege to choose how you educate your children. Please let HLA know if you have a planned event to recognize National School Choice Week.

Do you have a struggling reader or a child who lacks motivation to read when given a book? Book Adventure may spark some fun into the reading experience. The online resource is free to use and provides parents a way to create reading goals or challenges for their child and determine the rewards the child earns for their accomplishments. Book Adventure is for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. They choose a book from the Reading Adventure catalog, read the book offline and then are able to take a quiz on the book they read. Watch a video that explains how the program works and get your children reading.

There are those who are born leaders and then there are those who become leaders. If you fall into either one of those categories and are a student in the fourth through twelfth grades, the National Beta Club is one you should consider. The independent, educational and non-profit organization for youth has been developing

We need your help this year! At HomeLife, we strive to help families in need as much as possible by providing them with scholarships to cover registration costs. We give away thousands of dollars every year for this purpose. Our main fundraiser for the scholarship program is through Box Tops for Education. Box Tops can be found on many of the items you regularly buy. We are asking you to help us help these families by simply clipping the label and saving it.

So far this year, we have received 15,672 box tops. Our goal is 30,000 Box Tops by Feb 15, so we are a little over half way there. So please start collecting Box Tops and mailing them in groups of 50 to Box Top Coordinator, Toni Garner, P.O. Box 405, Oakland, TN 38060. Please put BONUS Box Tops in a separate group from the regular ones. If collecting Box Tops is not something you can or want to do, you can still help. You may also give to the scholarship fund. Be sure to type DONATION in the description.

While helping homeschooling families like your own in a time of financial need is great incentive to get involved in this program, there is more! There are awards for the families who collect the most Box Tops!

No amount of Box Tops is too small and remember, anyone who sends in Box Tops will have a chance to win FREE tuition. In addition to the top four winners, all of the names of the people who mailed in Box Tops will be entered into a random drawing, so everyone has a chance to win. These are the standings so far:

1st Place Davis Family S. Fulton, TN 2097
2nd Place Pike, Karen Mount Juliet, TN 1063
3rd Place Stewart, Penny Benton, TN 997
4th Place Price Family APO AP 96266 700

You may visit Homeschool Funding to keep up with the standings.

Thank you for helping us help these families!

Visit the Box Tops website to find out more about how the program works!
