It has been a couple of years since we have heard from the Homeschool Movie Club, but guess what? It is back and sharing another family-friendly movie. Homeschoolers across the country are asked to come out and celebrate Homeschool Day 2017 on Friday, January 27. This year, the featured movie is A Dog’s Purpose and it is definitely one you are going to want to share with your family.

About the movie
Based on the beloved bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron, A Dog’s Purpose, from director Lasse Hallström (Dear John and The 100-Foot Journey), shares the soulful and surprising story of one devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love.

You may see some familiar faces in the cast that includes KJ Apa, Pooch Hall, Luke Kirby, Peggy Lipton, John Ortiz, Britt Robertson, Juliet Rylance and Dennis Quaid. If you are a fan of any of them, it will be nice to see them perform in a movie that just may become a family favorite.

The Homeschool Movie Club was established more than 10 years ago by homeschool parents Sydney and Jon “JT” Taylor who wanted to incorporate quality, family-friendly movies into the way they homeschool. They both have a background in the entertainment industry which has benefited other homeschool families with the opportunities offered through the Homeschool Movie Club. Each movie that has been a movie club feature includes free curriculum for parents to share with their children. Some of the movie titles include:

The Blind Side
How to Train Your Dragon
Kit Kittredge: An American Girl
The War Horse

Watch the trailer. Just a warning. If you do not already have a dog, your children may ask for one immediately after seeing this movie!

A Dog’s Purpose will be released at movie theaters across the country on Friday, January 27. Homeschoolers are encouraged to purchase tickets and attend the 12 p.m. matinee screening that day. The hope is that homeschoolers will come out in large numbers, which will be reflected during that performance time. As the opening date approaches, you may find a theater near you and make plans to gather your homeschool friends to go out and support this one-day movie screening event.
