Making the decision to homeschool is not an easy one. That may be why you decided to put it off (again) until the beginning of the next school year. The only problem is, you do not think you can wait that long. You believe now is the time, but know it is in the middle of the school year. Of course, you cannot just pull your child out of their current school to start homeschooling mid-school year

. . . or can you?

Guess what? You can!

During the winter break is when many families reevaluate the way they have chosen to educate their children. Most continue in the direction they started in the fall while others decide an immediate change is necessary. For many, homeschooling is that change.

As a parent or legal guardian, you have the right to remove your child at any time during the school year to homeschool.

The decision is yours as to how you choose to educate your child. It does not matter if it is two weeks, four months or 160 days into the school year, you may remove your child to homeschool them.

Check the homeschool laws in your state to see what options are available to you. If you live in one of the states – Alabama, Colorado, Florida and Tennessee – where HomeLife Academy (HLA) provides legal covering – “meets all requirements for compulsory attendance in your state”, follow these steps to get started.

Before enrolling with HLA for legal covering, you will probably have a lot of questions regarding homeschooling. Some questions may include the following:

Can I homeschool my child in any grade from kindergarten through high school? YES

Can I homeschool my special needs child? YES

Is testing required? NO

Is there counselor support? YES

Will my child receive a diploma, and will it be accepted by colleges? YES

May we choose the curricula we use? YES

Is there an affordable online option for courses with teacher support? YES

Although HLA does not provide legal covering in all states, it still is able to support homeschool families in all states with other services that include:

  • Official high school transcripts and diplomas
  • High school planning and transcript review
  • Full-service records and administrative staff
  • Official records for kindergarten through eighth grade
  • Attendance records
  • Teacher and student ID cards

One thing to remember before making the move to homeschooling through HLA is to do the following:

Have your child continue attending their current school until Confirmation of Enrollment has been received from HLA.

HLA makes it easy for you to move your child from a public or private school setting at any time during the school year to begin homeschooling.

If you believe now is the time to start homeschooling and you do not want to wait until the beginning of the next school year, contact one of our HLA counselors and they will be able to get you started.
