With each month’s newsletter, we feature two members of our wonderful records or counseling team members here at HomeLife so that you can get to know them! This month, we would like to introduce you to Bryanna Cash, administrative assistant, and Karen Johnson, counselor.
Karen Johnson is a high school counselor. She handles 12th Grade Transcript Reviews, ACT/SAT/PSAT Testing, Florida Virtual, Bright Futures, and more! She lives in Memphis and has worked for HLA since 2006. She homeschooled her four children, three of them triplets, for eight years. All of her children attended college on academic scholarships and graduated with Honors. She has served on the Memphis-Area Home Education Association’s (MHEA’s) board for three years and as their yearbook advisor for seven years, working with a staff of twelve students to produce an award-winning yearbook. Karen says she enjoys her role at HLA in “focusing on high school and college preparatory issues, equipping parents and students to achieve their post-secondary goals.”
Outside of work, Karen is a dedicated volunteer with the Make A Wish Foundation, a cause close to her heart because one of her children, Shelby, was granted a Wish in 2002. She is a rabid Memphis Tigers fan who enjoys season ticket outings with her mother and her daughter Katie. She loves to read and says she has considered moving to Mitford. She loves to travel, especially to the beach!
“Homeschooling my children was truly the best thing I did for them as a parent. I believe they were encouraged to love learning, to grow their individual interests and to take charge of their future. God truly was faithful every step of my experience as a homeschooling Mom and I hope to be an encouragement to other families walking the same path.”
Bryanna Cash came to HomeLife as an administrative assistant in the summer of 2013. She was homeschooled her entire life, along with her four siblings. Bryanna and her husband, Phillip, have been married for two years and live in Jackson. Throughout her life, Bryanna has also lived in Louisiana and New York. She loves to travel to new places, and has been on mission trips to Belize, Africa, Mexico and Canada.
In her free time, Bryanna loves to make music. She sings and plays guitar, piano, violin, mountain dulcimer, and bass guitar. She also likes to deer hunt, fish and camp out with her husband. In addition to her office duties, Bryanna teaches with HomeLife Tutorial. She says she loves her job at HomeLife because it is a family-like environment, and since her family does not live nearby she is glad to have a family at work.
