Guitar and Drama Classes

Postby mommap » Thu Aug 20, 2009 1:14 pm

Our son is entering the 10th grade.. Between his private guitar lessons, practice time at home, and one year in our co-op Drama Class he has the hours for one credit... But in what??? Would you list this on his transcript as a one credit in Fine Arts? If not, then what? Either way, it would be an elective, right? If it matters, our son is College bound.......

thank you :P

It's always best to be as specific as possible when listing courses on a high school transcript. Therefore, I think it would be best if you gave him 1/2 cr. in Music - Guitar in the 1st semester, and 1/2 cr. in Drama in the 2nd semester. These together would fulfill his Visual/Performing Arts credit.

One note about electives: an elective is anything that in beyond the requirements. You do not need to be concerned at all about whether something is listed as an elective or not. For example, if your son takes a history course each year, the two that are beyond the requirements are technically electives, even though they are listed as history courses. On the other hand, if he takes Forensic Science as his third science course, but it's not listed, you will have to select "Elective" and type in the name,

So, you can just make sure your student has fulfilled the basic requirements, according to his goals, and has the required number of credits to graduate, and he will have everything he needs.
