If you are new to homeschooling a high school student, the thought may seem a bit daunting. Secretly, you may have even considered holding your rising high schooler back another year just so you do not have to deal with the new experience. Homeschooling a high school student is not for the weak, but it does not have to be hard. HomeLife Academy (HLA) Senior High Counselor Karen Johnson understands the high school years and wants parents and children to have the tools they need to easily navigate through that season.

Karen will present her workshop, “The 4-Year Plan for High School Success”. The title alone may already give you a bit of encouragement, and it should. Karen has not only been a counselor with HLA for more than 10 years, but she also homeschooled her four children successfully.
“All four of my children attended college on full academic scholarships and have no problem with socialization,” said Karen who also provides counselor support to Florida HLA homeschool families.

Some of the areas Karen will cover in the workshop are walking parents through the steps to create lesson plans, how to help students become college-ready or prepare for another direction after high schoo.

“We will discuss the four-year plan, what each requirement is, and course options within that requirement,” said Karen. “We will also discuss what a credit is, the difference between a transcript and a portfolio, and hints for structuring the four- year plan.”

Regardless of the post-high school direction your child chooses, you will learn ways to better assist your child as they work through high school.

“I want their students to reach their maximum potential to do what God has planned for their life,” said Karen who realizes college is not the only direction for high school students.
